CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The reporter recently learned from the Three Gorges Citrus Group that the Group has recently organized 100 tons of “Three Gorges Citrus” to be exported to Malaysia. This is also the second time that “Three Gorges Citrus” has “gone overseas” after being exported to Dubai in March 2024.

To further develop overseas markets, the Group launched an internationalization strategy this year to accelerate the “Three Gorges Citrus” “going overseas”. “We focus on expanding overseas markets, exploring new business growth points, and taking a series of measures to expand export business” said Hu Bo, general manager of Three Gorges Citrus Group. Relying on the organizational advantages of the municipal supply and marketing cooperative, the Group actively negotiates cooperation with fruit traders in the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

In March 2024, the Group delivered about 25 tons of citrus to Dubai by sea for the first time. At present, the two sides are discussing to switch to air transport to improve logistics efficiency. After the successful “going overseas” this time, the Group invited Malaysian trader Guo Ruiyi to visit and investigate the orchards of major citrus producing areas such as Fengjie, Yunyang, and Changshou, as well as the Group’s citrus processing and sorting lines. Both sides have reached a cooperation intention.

On May 24, the first batch of 25 tons of Yunyang navel oranges arrived in Penang, Malaysia by sea. Up to now, 100 tons of “Three Gorges Citrus” have been delivered to Malaysia. “After receiving the citrus, the buyer will conduct random inspections and give us feedback.” Hu Bo said. The Group has a preliminary understanding of the preference for citrus in the Malaysian market. “For example, they like small fruits for tangerine products, while they prefer large fruits for oranges.”

“Three Gorges Citrus” is popular in the Malaysian market thanks to its beautiful fruit color and high sweetness. According to reports, the Group will continue to explore the Middle East and Southeast Asian markets, and plans to achieve the export target of 2,000 tons of “Three Gorges Citrus” this year.
