CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing consumers showed strong spending power during the 618 (June 18) Grand Promotion, said JD.com on June 18.
With many Chongqing consumers stocking up at ultra-low prices during the 618 Grand Promotion, Chongqing ranked 14th in China by turnover growth and ranked 16th in terms of spending power, according to data from JD.com. The ultimate cost-effective integrated shopping experience is the driving force behind consumption, and most consumers prefer to spend money on food and drinks.
The unprecedented high discounts and the abundant supply of high-quality goods sparked a shopping frenzy among Chongqing consumers. JD 618 data revealed that Yubei District showed the strongest purchasing power and Yunyang County experienced the highest growth rate of purchasing power. Starting in 1907, Chen Changyin Mahua is a time-honored brand preferred by Chongqing consumers, featuring the unique traditional production technology of Ciqikou Chen Mahua (a fried dough twist). The brand has made Mahua the hottest local specialty and become the most popular food brand in JD, stimulating the enthusiasm of consumers across China.
From the point of view of the categories of consumer goods, Chongqing consumers were very fond of food, with the turnover growth rate of zongzi, herbal tea, and durian up to 176%, 138%, and 80% respectively, and the turnover growth rate of skin care products and instant cameras respectively staying at 135% and 15%, highlighting the characteristics of quality-oriented consumption.
Large electronic and home appliance products also accounted for a large proportion of Chongqing people's consumer goods, with mobile phones, air conditioning, flat-panel TVs, refrigerators, and tablet PCs becoming the top 5 categories with the highest per capita consumption amount (all in above 2,800 yuan). The budget-conscious Chongqing people stocked up on daily necessities such as household cleaning, grain, and oil seasonings during the 618 Grand Promotion. Switch sockets, flour, ice cream, underwear laundry detergent, and rice became the top 5 categories in terms of per capita shopping quantity, with the number of per capita purchases being 9.6 pieces, 7.4 pieces, 5.6 pieces, 4.7 pieces, and 4.6 pieces respectively.
In addition to food, Chongqing consumers also spent much on intelligent devices and beauty tools. Internet surfing has become a big part of daily life for this group.
As the mainstays of the family, the post-80s spent most on milk bottles and cans, baby nappies, baby snacks, baby wipes, and baby pull-ups, with the number of purchasers exceeding 70%. The silver-haired generation did not give up any opportunity to become beautiful, with the number of shoppers of white hair dye cream accounting for 13.7%. Adult milk powder, paste (equipment), eggs, and flour were also the preferred categories by the elderly, with buyer ratios up to 13.8%, 13.2%, 13.1%, and 12.2% respectively.
To provide consumers with high-quality and affordable goods, JD.com offered billion yuan of subsidies, cheaper or free shipping services, and 20-yuan coupons every day during the 618 Grand Promotion, further stimulating the consumption enthusiasm of consumers, including those in Chongqing.
