CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- As the two-month summer vacation for students has started recently, Ctrip released the 2024 Summer Tourism Market Forecast Report. The report finds that China has maintained a solid growth momentum in domestic tourism during the summer vacation this year, with the searches for domestic hotels and flight tickets surging by more than 20% year-on-year. Influenced by tourism policies, inbound and outbound tourism in China have experienced explosive growth, reflected by a more than 80% rise in orders for travel to Europe and Latin America and a doubling of the total orders for inbound tourism. Long-haul travelers are the major force of summer vacation this year, representing more than 70% of the summer travelers. Traditional popular long-distance travels to border areas remain popular with tourists, with orders for travel to northeastern and southwestern regions increasing by 40% and 25% respectively year-on-year, and orders for well-liked outdoor adventures in the northwest wilderness area rising by more than 20% on a yearly basis.

The booking data shows that Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Xi'an, Urumqi, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Nanjing, and Shenzhen are the top ten popular tourist cities in China during the summer vacation.

As of the end of June, Chongqing has ranked eighth among the top ten popular domestic tourist cities and ninth in inbound tourism during the summer vacation, reporting a 26% year-on-year growth in orders for local tours, a 68% year-on-year surge in outbound travel orders, and a 191% spike in inbound tourism orders compared to the same period last year. Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Suzhou, and Shenzhen are the main tourist sources for Chongqing during this summer vacation, while Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Ili, and Guiyang are the preferred tourist destinations for Chongqing residents. Wulong Three Natural Bridges, the former site of American Oriental Banking Corporation, Chongqing Happy Valley, the Exhibition Hall of the "June 5th" Great Tunnel Disaster of Chongqing, and Fairy Mountain National Forest Park are favored by most tourists in Chongqing this summer.

In addition, the report shows that inbound tourism orders in China have risen by 100% during this summer vacation, and the inbound tourism orders made by travelers from France, Italy, Germany, Malaysia, Thailand, and other nine countries that enjoy visa-free entry to China have grown by 1.5 times compared to the same period last year. Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xi'an, Shenzhen, Qingdao, Hangzhou, Chongqing, and Kunming are popular inbound tourism cities, and northeast cities with pleasantly cool weather, such as Shenyang, Dalian, and Harbin, rank among the top 15 inbound tourism cities in China.

The Paris Olympics, the European Cup, and other sports events have driven significant growth in travel orders to Europe, with orders for travel to France showing an 80% surge and the orders for chartered tours increasing by more than five times. Orders for travel to Germany have increased by 150% compared to the same period last year, and the France-Italy-Switzerland and Netherlands-Belgium-Luxembourg-Germany-France group trips and chartered trips are favored by most outbound travelers in China this summer. At the same time, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Turkey, Croatia, Morocco, Germany, Hungary, Tanzania, and Kazakhstan have witnessed relatively high growth rates in inbound travel orders made by Chinese travelers, and travel to European countries has constituted a large proportion of outbound tourism in China.

Summer is the peak season for graduation trips, when many graduates born after 2000 start their new life chapters with exciting trips with friends. The report shows that the tourism orders made by the post-00s generation have risen by 50% on a yearly basis and experienced a rise of three percentage points in proportion. It is expected that after the release of the admission notice in July, many prospective college students will take an ‘investigation trip’ to cities with many institutions of higher learning, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Xi'an, Nanjing, and Tianjin.
