CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The final round of the Third CHONGQING MEETS AUSTRALIA Youth Promotion Officer Competition was held in Chongqing on July 5, where 34 young contestants delivered English presentations on the themes of ‘discovering the charm of Chongqing's heritage’ or ‘exploring the wonders of Australian World Heritage sites’, showcasing the diverse allure of the World Heritage sites in both Chongqing and Australia.
The event was jointly organized by the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism, the information office and the foreign affairs office of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, the Youth League Committee of Chongqing, and the Exit-Entry Administration of Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau, and was implemented by the Window for International Exchanges of Chongqing Culture & Tourism. Starting in April this year, it attracted over 10,000 students from 61 primary schools in Chongqing. After several rounds of competition, a total of 34 contestants (with five tied) advanced to the finals.
The judges for the final round consisted of representatives from the Consulate General of Australia in Chengdu, Tourism Australia, and other Australian entities, as well as 12 experts from various associations, universities, high schools, cultural and tourism enterprises, and the communication field in Chongqing.
After a fierce competition, Zhang Houyitan, Gao Jingyi, and Yang Yaxi emerged as the first, second, and third-place winners of this year's competition, respectively. They were awarded round-trip air tickets to Australia, travel and accommodation vouchers, and Airbnb accommodation vouchers by Tourism Australia, the Tourism Northern Territory, and Airbnb.
The CHONGQING MEETS AUSTRALIA event has innovatively promoted the tourism destinations of both Chongqing and Australia through English speeches. Since its successful launch three years ago, the event has attracted the active participation of nearly 20,000 students from over 100 schools.
The CHONGQING MEETS AUSTRALIA event serves as a brand IP for bilateral tourism promotion between Chongqing and Australia, and it exemplifies a model of joint planning, construction, and sharing in tourism exchanges and cooperation between the two regions, said Feng Yuliang, the Deputy Director General of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism. With three years of cultivation and development, the aggregation impact of the brand has been steadily released, and cross-regional, cross-border, and cross-industry cooperation has continuously intensified, jointly promoting understanding and friendship between the people of Chongqing and Australia and ultimately boosting inbound tourism.
