CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On July 9, 700 tons of goods were transferred from Qinzhou Port to the international transshipment port of Singapore, destined for their final destination, marking the official launch of the new international transshipment route from Qinzhou Port to Singapore. The introduction of this new route represents a significant advancement in the daily service plan for international transshipment at Qinzhou Port, further expanding the international transshipment route network for the rail-sea intermodal transportation of the New Western Land-sea Corridor.

The Qinzhou Port-Singapore transshipment route is a high-quality addition that serves the joint development of the Belt and Road Initiative and the New Western Land-Sea Corridor. With the support of the Port and Logistics Office of the Chongqing Government and the Development and Reform Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guangxi Beibu Gulf Port Group will operate the route in collaboration with China COSCO Shipping to provide more convenient railway-sea intermodal transportation services for the regions along the corridor to enhance their global connectivity.

The inauguration of the new route from Qinzhou Port to Singapore is significant in enhancing the quality of railway-sea intermodal transportation services for the New Western Land-sea Corridor and ensuring the stability of logistics expectations among foreign trade enterprises along the corridor. Moreover, it will expedite the release of the corridor's promotional impact on the open economy in the provinces and cities along the route, facilitating their deeper integration into the Belt and Road Initiative, said Li Yan, the deputy director of the Port and Logistics Office of the Chongqing Municipal Government.

Since its launch in 2017, the route from Qinzhou Port to Singapore has mainly transported goods to Southeast Asia and transshipped goods to the Mediterranean, Europe, Africa, and other regions. By the end of June 2024, 637 trips had been made, and 113,000 TEUs of containers had been dispatched. The route has strengthened trade exchanges between the 15 provinces/cities (13 provinces and two cities) along the New Western Land-Sea Corridor and more than 100 countries worldwide.

Liu Taiping, the chairman of the Land-sea New Corridor Operating Company, said that the new route from Qinzhou Port to Singapore has promoted the efficient connection between railway and sea and stabilized logistics expectations. It has also improved the planning, predictability, and stability of the overall transportation time for railway-sea intermodal transportation, effectively boosting the transshipment efficiency of goods imported and exported to and from western regions via Qinzhou Port and reducing logistics and time costs for convenient access to overseas markets.

For products with stringent timeliness demands, such as fresh produce and electronic products, the new route can expedite their delivery to the international market, enhancing the response speed and global competitiveness of enterprises along the corridor in overseas markets. As of now, the operating network of the New Western Land-sea Corridor has extended to 518 ports in 124 countries and regions, with the variety of goods surpassing 1,150, notably facilitating trade exchanges between the western region and ASEAN, as well as major global economies.
