CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing enjoyed 163 days of good air quality in the first half of 2024, an increase of 6 days compared to the same period last year; the water quality of the Yangtze River mainstream in Chongqing remained at Class II; and 98.6% of the 74 national surface water assessment sections had good water quality, according to the news conference on ecological and environmental protection work in Chongqing on July 10.

Liu Qin, the deputy director of the Chongqing Municipal Ecological Environment Bureau, introduced that to safeguard the sound atmospheric environment, Chongqing has implemented a plan for continuous improvement of air quality and vigorously carried out the air pollution control campaign in summer and autumn, as well as the comprehensive management of mobile sources of air pollution. So far, 31 enterprises have completed in-depth treatment or ultra-low emission transformation, and 577 enterprises have implemented waste gas treatment in Chongqing. Additionally, 27 new enterprises have been included in the list of outstanding performers in air pollution prevention and control, accounting for 49% of the total. Moreover, 5.2 million old vehicles have been phased out, and 10.6 million new energy vehicles have been promoted. In the first half of 2024, the average concentration of PM2.5 in Chongqing's atmosphere was 36.6 micrograms per cubic meter, a reduction of 4.3 micrograms per cubic meter compared to the same period last year.
