CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- At 6:00 p.m. on July 10, a freight train laden with containers embarked on its maiden voyage from Wansheng Station of the Fuling-Sanjiang Railway, bound for Suining, Sichuan, marking the inaugural run of the first self-operated railway in western China.

The Fuling-Sanjiang Railway consists of the Nanchuan-Fuling Railway and the Sanjiang-Wansheng-Nanchuan Railway Expansion Project. Built to national railway standard II, it accommodates passenger and freight services and features a single-track design with a speed limit of 120 kilometers per hour. It serves as a crucial link between the Chongqing-Guiyang Railway and Chongqing-Huaihua Railway and is an integral part of the southeast ring railway of the Chongqing metropolitan area.

The Fuling-Sanjiang Railway mainly caters to freight transport, handling commodities such as coal, alumina, sand, stone, and steel. In the future, it will be incorporated into the operations of rapid transit trains on the southeast ring railway of the Chongqing metropolitan area to facilitate the travel and commuting needs of the local population, including those in Wansheng, and to provide more convenient access to Chongqingxi Railway Station, Chongqingbei Railway Station, and other districts within the Chongqing metropolitan area.

Officials stress that the Fuling-Sanjiang Railway, as the first instance of local self-operation in western China, is of great significance for enhancing the investment environment in areas such as Fuling, Wulong, Nanchuan, Wansheng, and Qijiang, strengthening economic exchanges and interactions between Southeast Chongqing and Northern Guizhou, accelerating the construction of a comprehensive multimodal transportation system, and contributing to the in-depth development of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle.
