CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The Digital Currency Pilot Program in Chongqing has seen positive results since its launch in April 2022, according to the Chongqing Branch of the People's Bank of China. As of April 30, 2024, more than 454,000 stores in Chongqing have accepted digital currency payments, allowing citizens to use e-CNY for various purposes, such as dining, entertainment, travel, medical care, shopping, and tax payment.

Since the implementation of the e-CNY pilot program in Chongqing, the city has focused on creating ten common application scenarios in digital government services, public welfare services, transportation, retail supermarkets, etc., and establishing six special application scenarios in building an international consumption center city, supporting rural revitalization, and facilitating financial services, to accelerate the pilot application of e-CNY.

As of April 30, 2024, Chongqing has opened over 12.43 million individual digital CNY wallets and 463,000 corporate wallets; the total number of e-CNY transactions has exceeded 51.97 million, with a transaction volume of CNY1.78 billion.
