CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The reporter learned from the Port Logistics Office of the Municipal People’s Government that recently, the State Council has approved the expansion and opening of another three port areas in Chongqing, namely, the Xintian Port Area in Wanzhou, the Longtou Port Area in Fuling and the Luohuang Port Area in Jiangjin. This means that the number of open ports in Chongqing has increased to 7, making it the municipality at the province level with the most open ports in the western inland areas.

Chongqing has a total of over 600 kilometers of Yangtze River shoreline, with rich water transport resources, but there is only one open water transportation port, Guoyuan Port, making it difficult to meet the needs of enterprises to conduct water transportation business nearby. In response, Chongqing has actively sought support from the national level, asking for the expansion of the port areas in Chongqing, so as to optimize Chongqing's port layout, and improve its port functions.

The three areas (Wanzhou, Fuling, and Jiangjin) approved by the State Council for the expansion and opening of port areas in Chongqing are all industrial zones in our city, and all have comprehensive bonded zones as special customs supervision areas. They are also important multi-modal transportation hub nodes in Chongqing with relatively mature opening conditions.

Jiang Xin, Director of the Port Service Department of the Port Logistics Office of the Municipal People’s Government, stated that currently, the three newly opened ports are focusing on upgrading their facilities and equipment for cargo transportation, improving their software and hardware capabilities, in order to create favorable conditions for good operation of the ports after they are opened. As the construction of the three port areas continues to mature, they will help Chongqing further expand its open space on the Yangtze River, form an open port cluster for water transport, so as to promote Chongqing's construction of an international open gateway that leads the inland areas, serves the whole country, and connects the world, and accelerate the creation of an inland open comprehensive hub.
