Luo Shifang from Southwest University breaks three weightlifting Olympic records

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On the evening of August 8, Beijing time, the Paris Olympics saw its second day of weightlifting events. In the women’s 59kg category, Luo Shifang from Southwest University represented the Chinese team and won the gold medal with a total weight of 241kg. She also set new Olympic records in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total weight categories.

Luo Shifang is a student in Grade 2021, majored in Sports Training at the School of Physical Education, Southwest University. As one of the rising stars of the Chinese weightlifting team at this Olympics, she won three gold medals at 2020 National Women’s Weightlifting Championship, claimed the championship and set a national record in the snatch at 2021 National Weightlifting Championship, and secured the gold medal in the women’s 59kg category at the 14th National Games.

According to reports, many competitors who previously competed in the 64kg category moved down to compete in this weight class, making the competition very intense. Once the event started, several competitors showed outstanding performances, and set new Olympic records for the event continually throughout the competition.

101kg, 105kg, 106kg... In the end, Luo Shifang set the snatch record at 107kg, temporarily ranking first.

In the clean and jerk competition, Luo Shifang once again demonstrated her absolute strength. She successfully completed both of her attempts, securing the gold medal with a total weight of 241kg, breaking Olympic records in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total weight categories, and marking the first time that the Chinese team won the gold medal in this event.
