CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On August 12, a figure skating feast brilliantly staged in Jiulongpo District, which is the figure skating competition site of the 7th Games of Chongqing, and the first ice and snow event of the Games.

The competition set up two groups including teenager group A and group B, including men’s single skating short program and free skating, and women’s single skating short program and free skating, attracting figure skaters from 11 districts and counties of Chongqing.

As the city’s highest level of figure skating competitions, the figure skating competition of the 7th Games of Chongqing sent a high-level refereeing team with the figure skating national referee and figure skating former national team member Gao Ge as chief referee, and six national referees as referees, and the event is comparable to a national competition.

According to Zhang Ge, Director of Chongqing Winter Sports Management Center, ice and snow events are major highlights; in addition to 3 winter events including figure skating, snowboarding and ice hockey organized in the last Games, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and cross-country rollerblading were added; and there were 6 snow and ice competitive events in total in this year, which shows exactly the booming development of snow and ice sports in Chongqing.

Moreover, the Cup of China ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2024 will also be held in November in Chongqing Huaxi Culture and Sports Center. Zhang Ge said that this is also the fourth time the Cup of China held in Chongqing; driven by the international top event, with the popularization and promotion of the city’s ice and snow events, in the post-Winter Olympics era, Chongqing’s ice and snow sports atmosphere continues to heat up and boost the ice and snow sports.
