A few days ago, the reporter learned from Chongqing Nanshan Botanical Garden that Chongqing Nanshan Botanical Garden “Midsummer Night’s Dream – Elf Party” Science Popularization Event was going. As one of Nanshan Botanical Garden ecological environment science popularization series, themed on hiking to watch the forest fireflies, this event is of the significance of ornamental playing and science popularization.

Under the lecturer’s explanation and guidance, participants completed the creative and warm lantern DIY, then, they held their lantern, and walked along the winding path to start their insect observation journey. Arrived at the firefly feeding base, everyone turned off their lantern to watch fireflies, and found that thousands of fireflies were fluttering in groups among the bushes, and seemed like starlight lighting up the night, and creating a fairy tale world.

“Fireflies are environment indicators, and have significance for the scientific research of ecological environment protection.” According to a staff member of Nanshan Botanical Garden, Nanshan Firefly Conservation Base is the first urban firefly ecological conservation base in Southwest China, located at Nanshan Botanical Garden Azalea Garden which has tens of thousands of acres of high forests in the mountains, and dense and excellent ecological environment, and whose core area has the untraversed valley area of about ten acres. Therefore, the base is very suitable for natural reproduction of fireflies, and mainly has four species which are local species in Chongqing.
