CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- “Xinyi, welcome home!” At 12:50 on Aug. 15, Ding Xinyi, who won a gold medal at Paris Olympics, returned to her hometown, Chongqing.
When Ding Xinyi walked out of the arrival hall, all her hard work and efforts had been displayed via the smile of her coach and the tears of the eyes of her family members.
For her parents, that day was a big day. Knowing that their daughter was coming home, they came to the airport early, and her mom even brought a small doll, and prepared her favorite food.
“She has not returned to Chongqing for more than a year. We prepared spicy chicken, spicy rabbit and other specialties for her.” Her father, Ding Xiaodi, told the reporter that “we are very excited, and we even did not sleep last night.”
When Ding Xinyi appeared in their line of sight, their excitement was indescribable. Her mother hugged her daughter tightly, while her father secretly wiped his tears by the side of them. At that moment, her parents were proud of her and moved by her.
At Paris Olympics, Ding Xinyi and Guo Qiqi from Chongqing and their teammates Hao Ting, Huang Zhangjiayang and Wang Lanjing, with a total score of 69.800, won the championship, which was the first time for the artistic gymnastics team of China to won a gold medal at the Olympics.
Ding Xinyi’s outstanding performance at this Olympics not only won honor for her country, but also marked an important moment in the development of artistic gymnastics in Chongqing. At 10:00, the reporter and Chongqing Municipal Artistic Gymnastics Outstanding Sports Team came from Shapingba to meet Ding Xinyi at the airport.
During the journey to the airport, the head coach of the sports team, Xu Yading, could not hide her excitement. As Ding Xinyi’s artistic gymnastics initiation training coach, Xu Yading began taking her to train when she was 5 years old, and witnessed her growth and pay in the 15 years.
“During the competition, my heart bounces up and down with their instruments. I was especially nervous about them.” Xu Yading said happily. “Xinyi also fulfilled the dream for us. I have been engaged in artistic gymnastics for nearly 40 years, and finally witnessed the first Olympic gold medal of Chinese artistic gymnastics. Especially, my trainee did it. I am so proud of her.”
When Ding Xinyi saw her teammates who used to train with her at the airport, she embraced them tightly and couldn’t help but shed tears. It seemed that everything, including working hard and facing challenges, happened yesterday. (Translated by Vichy, Fathom Language Limited)
