CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Climbing up to the roof of more than 4 meters high, checking the pantograph, cleaning air conditioning filters ... in train service shop of Chongqing Rail Transit Dazhulin Section, electric train repairers were overhauling a train of Line 5. Over the past few days, Chongqing had experienced sustained high temperatures, and the train service shop was like a huge “steamer”.
Rail transit train depot is the place for parking and maintaining trains, and it is also known as the train “4S store”. Repairers are very busy here, and they are like the train “doctors” who are responsible for the safe operation of trains.
At present, Chongqing rail transit realizes the maximum single-day passenger flow of more than 5 million passenger-times, and it should ensure that there are enough trains in operation, and ensure the safe operation of trains. This train in the photo, in addition to the daily routine maintenance, was being done systematic overhauling every 15 days. After the overhaul, it was going to perform for evening peak in the afternoon. It seemed that the repairers had half a day to overhaul the train, but in fact these repairers were on tight schedule, because they had to make a “full-body physical examination” for the 126-meter-long train, including its underbodies, compartments, and roofs.
Eleven repairer quickly start work respectively. Wearing a helmet and a safety belt, Liu Qing skillfully climbed up to the roof of more than 4 meters high to check the air conditioning set. At present, Line 5 uses the 6-unit train, and one compartment has two air-conditioning sets as well as 4 fresh air filters, hundreds of lines to be maintained. Although Liu Qing worked at the place very close to the air conditioning sets, she could not feel cool.
Although she is petite and soft, Liu Qing (first from the left) joined the profession for 5 years, and she often climbed on the roof and moved to underbody, so she owned good skills. “This job requires us to be bold and careful. For example, when measuring the carbonized electrode on the pantograph on the roof, we should ensure that the data is accurate to millimeter.”
The underbody is also required to be overhauled. Getting into the gutter, holding a flashlight and using it sweeping through every part of the underbody, Xu Chuanshu concentrated on checking any possible hidden danger.
“The moving parts of a train are underneath the train. A train has many electrical components. We should check every one of them, and we should not make any error.” Walking through 6 compartments underneath the train, Xu Chuanshu and his colleagues spent nearly 1 hour, with their thick gloves stained a lot of oil contamination.
Although there were a number of fans working, in the sweltering gutter, Xu Chuanshu felt very hot, with beads of sweat from his hair, and obvious sweat stains on his uniforms upon completion of the underbody inspection. “In summer, we have to change our uniforms when we overhaul for half a day.” Although it is hard, this repairer who is a post-95s, loves his work. “Whenever a train overhauling is completed, and put into operation, I am pride of it.”
The return air grille filter is also the focus of maintenance. In summer, the air conditioner on a train keeps working, so the filter has to be replaced every half a month for cleaning so as to ensure that the air quality in the compartment is good so that passengers feel cool.
According to Line 5 Dazhulin Train Depot Technical Management Tao Feng, a train should be done daily check, routine inspection every 4 days, systematic inspection every 15 days as well as targeted special repair, and particular repair, which means that every repairer has to work in 24 hours a day.
Train cleaning is also a part of overhauling. In the “4S store”, a training was entering the special cleaning track to be cleaned by the brushes.
To ensure operation safety of a train, and a clear sight of driver, a cleaner was manually cleaning the train head.
Upon completion of overhauling, the train was put into operation for the evening peak hours; and the repairers were working for their new tasks. (Translated by Vichy, Fathom Language Limited)
