CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The fourth runway of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport passed its final inspection on August 16, marking a major milestone in the ongoing development of Terminal T3B and the associated runway project. This achievement paves the way for upcoming test flights, regulatory inspections, and the eventual operation of the new runway.
The inspection focused on the 3,400-meter-long, 45-meter-wide runway, along with the associated taxiways, navigation lighting aids, and equipment. It covered various aspects, including runway construction, navigation lighting, air traffic control systems, weak electric systems, and supporting infrastructure. With an investment of approximately 1.775 billion yuan, the project underwent rigorous on-site measurements and a detailed review of construction records. Inspection teams unanimously concluded that the project met all approved construction standards, complied with national and civil aviation technical regulations, and fulfilled the design specifications, which allowed it to pass the final inspection.
The Terminal T3B and fourth runway project at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is a key initiative under the 14th Five-Year Plan, spearheaded by the Civil Aviation Administration of China and Chongqing's local government. This project is critical for enhancing Chongqing’s role as an international aviation gateway and boosting the operational capacity of Jiangbei Airport. The fourth runway is central to the airport's strategy for driving high-quality growth in its core aviation business. Since construction began in October 2021, significant progress has been made, including completing several key areas, such as Construction Areas 5 and 7.
The entire Terminal T3B and fourth runway project is slated for completion by the end of 2024, with the runway expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2025. Once finished, Jiangbei Airport will boast a layout of four runways and four terminals, capable of handling up to 80 million passengers annually, with 580,000 flight trips, and 1.2 million tons of cargo. This expansion will greatly enhance the airport's standing as a major international aviation hub. (Translated by Yuki, Fathom Language Limited)
