CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- According to the Shapingba Meteorological Bureau, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) announced the first batch of seventy-five-year meteorological stations recognized globally a few days ago, including 8 meteorological stations in China, one of which is the Shapingba National Basic Meteorological Station in Chongqing, making it the only station in Chongqing selected.

The 8 meteorological stations in China that have been recognized by the World Meteorological Organization include the Shapingba National Basic Meteorological Station in Chongqing, the Fuzhou National Reference Climatological Station in Fujian, the Nenjiang National Basic Meteorological Station in Heilongjiang, the Emeishan National Reference Climatological Station in Sichuan, the Xingren National Reference Climate Station in Guizhou, the Hami National Reference Climatological Station in Xinjiang, the Zhangye National Climatological Observatory in Gansu, and the Kongtong National Basic Meteorological Station in Gansu. These stations all meet 10 selection criteria, e.g. operating for more than seventy-five years, having missing data not exceeding 10% (excluding impacts from wars and disasters), and ensuring that relocation of stations have not altered climate characteristics, etc.

Established in April 1934, the Shapingba National Basic Meteorological Station is currently the observation station with the most comprehensive range of observation types in Chongqing, with a total of 18 observation items and the only high-altitude observation station in Chongqing.

Currently, the Shapingba District Meteorological Bureau is building the Chongqing Smart Meteorological Park, with the first phase of the riverside project already open to the public. In the future, the business building of the National Climate Observatory, Geleshan High-altitude Meteorological Observation Station will also be built here.
