CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- In recent days, Chongqing has experienced continuous high temperatures. On August 25, the Chongqing Meteorological Observatory issued another red alert for high temperatures, predicting that the daily maximum temperature in 35 areas will exceed 40°C.
How do Chongqing locals, with their laid-back attitudes, cope with such scorching weather? The reporter visited several cooling spots to find out the "secrets" Chongqing residents use to beat the heat.
On the afternoon of August 25, at Xingke Ave. Station of CRT Line 9, the temperature was just right. In the station's cooling area, citizens, sitting on their own small stools brought with them, were gathering to chat or taking peaceful naps. Children were doing homework in the chairs... Be personally on the scene, you will feel very relaxed.
"It's both cool and convenient. I came here at 3:00 p.m.!" said Mr. Li, who lived nearby. He told the reporter that since the start of the summer vacation, he had been coming to the cooling spot with his grandson every afternoon. While his grandson was doing homework or reading, he took a nap against the wall. "There are many people here to cool off. Sometimes, I even play a game of chess with others. It's really enjoyable!"
It is learned that this year Chongqing has opened 140 cooling areas in rail transit stations, 13 more than last year. To provide quality service, station staff regularly clean and disinfect the cooling areas and stations also provide heat-relief supplies like Huoxiangzhengqi water and balm.
Additionally, the Olympic Sports Center Station of CRT Line 18 has fully upgraded its existing cooling area, and set the first children's cooling area. This area is equipped with zones such as a reading zone, a hopscotch game zone and a rail transit safety flight zone, where children can read books, play games and learn about rail transit safety in a fun way, raising their awareness of safe travel.
In addition to rail transit stations, air-raid shelters are another popular summer refuge for Chongqing residents. This summer, 39 civil defense projects cooling spots in 11 districts of Chongqing have been opened to the public free of charge.
Each cooling area is equipped with drinking water, tables and chairs, cooling guidelines, heat-relief medicine, and national defense mobilization materials, with staff on hand to ensure safety and cleanliness, providing intimate service to citizens. Sit in the shelter, drinking a cup of Laoyin tea, fanning oneself with a cattail leaf fan, and chatting with each other, how enjoyable.
While citizens are enjoying the cool, outdoor front workers like deliverymen, cleaner, and on-duty personnel continue to stick to their posts while suffering heat wave. So to bring cool to these outdoor workers, Chongqing has also taken warm measures. (Translated by Jane, Fathom Language Limited)
