CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, in partnership with various state tourism agencies in Malaysia and the Malaysia-China Tourism and Culture Promotion Chamber of Commerce, hosted a tourism roadshow and promotional event in Chongqing. Nearly 100 representatives from 78 local tourism enterprises, including travel agencies, airlines, hotels, and resorts, attended the event, engaging in in-depth discussions with their Chongqing counterparts about the unique tourism routes and products of Malaysia.

During the event, the promotion officer highlighted Malaysia’s rich local attractions, including its diverse ethnic cultures, educational study tours, and regional culinary delights. The presentation also shed light on current tourism trends in Malaysia, where customized tours, educational trips, and sports-related activities like diving, fishing, and mountain climbing have become increasingly popular among young people. Additionally, playing golf has emerged as a favorite activity among Chinese tourists.

A representative from the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board emphasized that this event aims to attract a broader spectrum of tourists, including those interested in business conferences, leisure vacations, and niche markets. The Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board also actively promotes the “Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H)” program, boosts marketing efforts in the Chinese market, and extends a warm invitation to Chongqing residents to experience Malaysia firsthand. Malaysia anticipates welcoming five million Chinese tourists in 2024.

Since Malaysia implemented its visa-free policy for Chinese tourists in December last year, the results have been impressive. Between January and July this year, over two million Chinese tourists visited Malaysia, surpassing the numbers from the same period in 2019. Meanwhile, the number of Chinese restaurants in Malaysia has grown to over 10,000, offering a variety of cuisines such as Chongqing hot pot, Hunan cuisine, Henan cuisine, and Guizhou cuisine, thereby better catering to the tastes of Chinese visitors.

Additionally, this year, the overseas offices of the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou will continue to collaborate with Chinese travel agencies and airlines to promote Malaysia. With the resumption and introduction of new flights by airlines like Shenzhen Air, China Eastern Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, Loong Air, Air China, Spring Airlines, and Malaysia Airlines, the connectivity between China and Malaysia is set to increase, further boosting tourism.

The Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board also plans to promote Malaysian culinary culture in China actively, organizing a series of roadshow events and participating in the cultural and tourism conference scheduled in Chongqing this November. (Translated by Yuki, Fathom Language Limited)
