"Mini Trains" at Chongqing Airport entering the installation and debugging stage

2024-09-03 12:17:47

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On August 30, the reporter learned from Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport that the automated people mover (commonly known as the "Mini Train") connecting Terminal 3A (T3A) to Terminal 3B (T3B) at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport has now entered the on-site installation and debugging stage. It is planned to achieve track completion and electrical connection by October this year, and will be debugged in November. The system is expected to be put into operation in the first quarter of next year, coinciding with the opening of the T3B terminal.

According to the person in charge of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, the whole line of automated people mover spans approximately 2.353 kilometers, with two stations and one operation and maintenance center. This system is the world's first fully automated people mover using a straddle-type monorail, and it is nearly fully localized. As a fully automated unmanned line of the highest automation level (GOA4 level), the project has adopted several cutting-edge technologies in China's rail transit sector, including flexible marshalling, flight coordination, super-capacitor energy storage for trains’ power supply, and a multi-disciplinary intelligent operation and maintenance platform based on "cloud platforms and edge controllers."

A total of 16 trains have been purchased for the automated people mover of this phase, making 1-4 flexible marshalling possible, operating fully underground on dual tracks, with a maximum operating speed of 80 km/h. At an interval of 150 seconds between departures, four trains can transport up to 10,752 passengers per hour, meeting the peak hour demand of T3B.

Additionally, the exterior decoration work (including the metal roofing and glass curtain wall project) of the T3B terminal at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport has been mostly completed and has passed special acceptance. It is expected that the decoration work will be substantially completed by the end of September. The entire terminal is planned to meet the conditions for final acceptance by the end of December, aiming to be put into operation in the first quarter of next year.
