CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On August 31, the reporter learned from Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport that, according to preliminary statistics, the airport is expected to serve 8.87 million passengers during the summer vacation travel rush in 2024, up 3% year-on-year, with 59,000 takeoffs and landings handled, increasing by 0.6% year-on-year, the cargo and mail throughput of 77,000 tons, rising 16.3% year-on-year, and the average outbound load factor of 87.6%, up 3.3 percentage points from the previous year.

During the summer vacation travel rush, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport set three new records: on August 10, the number of takeoffs and landings handled reached a record high of 1,051; on the same day, the passenger throughput reached 160,400, a record high during the summer vacation travel rush; and the preliminary statistics show that the passenger throughput reached 4.48 million in August, setting another new record.

The domestic destinations with high passenger flow from Chongqing mainly include Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Qingdao, Jinan, Tianjin and Urumqi. Among these cities, the number of passengers traveling between Chongqing and Tibet, Xinjiang, and Yunnan exceeded 200,000, 250,000, and 300,000, respectively.

Regarding the inbound and outbound tourism market, during the summer vacation travel rush, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport has launched and resumed direct passenger flights between Chongqing and Jakarta, Penang, and Moscow. It also has increased the frequency of passenger flights to Bangkok, Phuket, Kuala Lumpur, and Hong Kong, with 27 international (regional) routes in operation, and 155 flights operated per week. The international (regional) passenger throughput is expected to reach 374,000, an increase of approximately 86.8% compared to 2023, recovering to nearly 60% of the passenger throughput in the same period of 2019.

It is worth mentioning that during the summer vacation travel rush, more than 160,000 passengers traveled to visa-free countries in Southeast Asian such as Singapore, Bangkok, Phuket, Kuala Lumpur and Penang; The load factors on routes to Seattle, Madrid, Milan, Osaka, Kuala Lumpur, and Penang all exceeded 80%. In terms of international transfer services, since August 8, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport has launched international connecting flights to London and Sydney, allowing transit passengers to check in luggage directly to their final destination.
